Insights from BioChina 2026

CFI was pleased to participate in this year’s BioChina event, held in Suzhou from March 12–14.

During the conference, Jean-Baptiste Duval presented “The M&A Playbook for China–Rest of World Transactions” alongside industry leaders Feng Bian (Bristol Myers Squibb), Jenny Yang (Novo Nordisk), and Hai Zhang (Roche). The discussion highlighted a key takeaway echoed by many participants:

The window for high-value M&A in this geography isn’t wide. Investors need precision, not patience.

China has attracted significant investment into its biotech sector from both private and public sources:

  • world-class Chinese venture capital and private equity firms have been funding innovation and sponsoring the creation of thousands of cutting-edge biotech and medtech solutions
  • the Chinese government’s 15th Five Year Plan (2026-2030) positions biotech as a priority, signaling long-term government commitment and continued investment acceleration.

The investment is already paying off: over 1/3 of the world’s biotech investment now originates from or targets China. For leaders in innovation strategy, M&A, or business development in biotech, medtech, or life sciences, the question isn’t whether to engage with China, but how to do so to maximise value.

At CFI, we understand that navigating cross-border transactions in life sciences requires a combination of deep regional expertise and global perspective. Our international network of partners and advisors allows us to support clients in identifying opportunities, structuring partnerships, and executing complex transactions between China and global markets.

We extend our sincere thanks to the organisers of BioChina for hosting another outstanding edition, and to the many industry leaders, partners, and participants who contributed to such valuable discussions.
