Since 2013 part of Seri Industrial SpA (c. € 200 million in revenues and with ticker symbol: SERI and ISIN code: IT0005283640), Faam SpA (“Faam”) has become a leading Italian company that focuses on the development and production of a wide range of lead-acid and li-ion batteries for industrial, storage, motive power, starter and special applications. Furthermore, Faam is engaged with the design and construction of plants for the recycling of exhausted batteries. Founded in 1974, the company has developed into a global player with – at the time of the transaction – c. € 100 million turnover and more than 250 employees. Faam has its own production facilities in Italy, Uruguay and China.
Van Drempt Batteries B.V. focuses on the sale of traction batteries, rectifiers, blocs and starter batteries for the Dutch market and delivers the product range of Faam. To better serve its customers Faam has decided together with Van Drempt Batteries B.V. to formalize their co-operation, resulting in a full acquisition of Van Drempt Batteries B.V. The distribution centre in Almelo, the Netherlands, will increasingly serve as a central hub to customers in the Benelux but also in neighbouring countries.
CFI advised Faam SpA in structuring the transaction, negotiating with vendors and arranging bank credit facilities, in a transaction that closed in October 2010.
